When to Start Your Soccer Player's College Recruiting Journey: Essential Tips & Timeline Explained!
Sep 15, 2024When to Start Your Soccer Player's College Recruiting Journey: Essential Tips & Timeline Explained!
Many parents ask, "When should my soccer player start the college recruiting process?" My answer might surprise you: the process should begin as early as fifth grade.
Why so early? To succeed in the competitive world of college soccer, your athlete needs to develop high-performance habits in three critical areas: nutrition, mindset, and training habits. Starting in fifth grade gives your player at least two years to build and refine these habits before they try out for elite leagues like ECNL, MLS Next, or GA in seventh grade. By this time, they’ll be prepared to handle the demands of high-level soccer, setting them up for success on and off the field.
Here’s a rough roadmap for your athlete’s journey:
-
5th - 8th Grade: Focus on building a solid foundation of high-performance habits. These will become second nature by the time they reach key tryouts.
-
9th Grade: Begin introducing recruiting goals with specific benchmarks. Academic success is essential here, as grades in 10th-12th grade play a crucial role in college recruitment.
-
10th - 12th Grade: Fine-tune their high-performance habits in nutrition, mindset, and training. Leverage recruiting resources, like a personalized roadmap and soccer profile, to navigate the process confidently.
